Wordpress is by far the most popular blogging platform and we could not resist trying to help designers and blog owners to make it work with mobile devices. Blogging fits perfectly with the whole mobile concept with easy to read, frequently updated content.

The Mobile Pack is a very simple, yet a complete plugin for Wordpress. Install it directly from the admin panel and activate it in 2 clicks. Recognise mobile devices using simple string matching, let your users choose the presentation mode using separate domains (myblog.com and myblog.mobi), easily integrate with Admob and Google mobile ads. You can even manage your content from a mobile device and more.

Device Detection and switching

Serving mobile content is very simple in theory, but WHEN do you serve it? You can make decisions on the server side based on HTTP headers, but surely users should have a choice too. With the Mobile Pack you can make all this possible with just a couple of clicks. In fact, you can let the plug-in suggest the best presentation, but if you have a separate address such as a .mobi domain you can also let the users choose the presentation they like and at any point the plug-in will provide a link to switch to "the other" presentation, just enable the mobile switcher widget in the admin interface.

DeviceAtlas Personal is an add-on for the WordPress Mobile Pack that uses dotMobi's DeviceAtlas API to provide advanced information about the device currently accessing the site.

Benefits

  • Provides information about screen-size and page-size to automatically resize images and revise pagination specifically for the visiting device.
  • Allows the placement of a widget on the site to display the make and model, screen size (and optionally, user-agent) of the device which is particularly useful for testing the site on different handsets
  • Theme designers can use DeviceAtlas Personal data to adapt the way the theme displays.

How it works

The DeviceAtlas Personal service is automatically accessed by the WordPress plug-in for each new device visiting the site. It uses the user agent to identify the specific make and model of the device and passes the corresponding device information back to the WordPress plug-in which in turn automatically carries out specific page adaptation.

Activating the service

To activate the DeviceAtlas Personal service simply go to the admin panel on the WordPress plug-in and select the DeviceAtlas option. You will then be prompted for a licence key which is obtained by registering on DeviceAtlas.com. Once the key is entered the service is activated automatically.
