The latest research from DeviceAtlas reveals who is leading in the chipset industry. As the massive growth in mobile and connected devices continues, our data shows which chipset manufacturers are dominating and where. To understand more about the market, the DeviceAtlas report shows which markets are primarily Android and which ones mostly use Apple devices. Figures show that Android is ahead of iOS in 60 out of 72 countries analyzed. However, Apple, who use their own chip hardware, still make up a sizable proportion of devices active on the web.
Qualcomm chips most used in the Android world
On the heavily fragmented Android platform, devices are powered by a number of different chipset makers. Right now, the world of Android hardware is dominated by Qualcomm (Snapdragon), Samsung (Exynos), HiSilicon and MediaTek chipsets. There are also hardware makers with a smaller presence, such as Spreadtrum, or Marvell. DeviceAtlas web traffic statistics show which chipset models and chipset vendors were the most popular based on website browsing in second quarter of 2017.
In the Apple world, the newest iPhone models are powered by Apple-designed chipsets which are iPhone exclusive. These Apple-made chipsets are A8 (iPhone 6 and 6 Plus), A9 (iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, iPhone SE), and A10 Fusion
